Aids Lifecycle Ride

Hello my dear friends!

Yes! It’s that time again! Time to fundraise for the AIDS LIFECYLE Ride in May!

To refresh….last year was my first year doing the ALC ride, for 5 days I had the most magnificent experience on my bike, while raising money (with your help) for the fight to end AIDS. What you may or may not have known was that I actually did not finish the ride….I had a DNF (Did Not Finish) on a “medical”. This medical….which I will spare you the nasty details was a horrific MRSA infection that developed….well….on my backside….you know….”up in that area”! On day 5 I had to pull out of the ride. While I rode with a friend who was running support for his partner in the ride, I was the most incredible pain “back there” that I have ever experienced. I watched my friends cross the finish line at the VA Center in LA, where promptly Deirdre drove me to Kaiser Sunset, where I spent the next 16hrs in the emergency room, hooked up to a morphine drip while every intern, nurse, doctor and staff member proceeded to poke, prod and systematically drain this ungodly abscess, it was unimaginable pain and horror.

For the next 2 months, three times a day I drained, repacked (don't ask) and wore adult diapers in an effort to heal. Now, a year later I have occasional flare ups “down there”, as there is scar tissue deep in this sacred area…..TMI I know...BUTT I just wanted to share! HA!!!

What also happened last year was my heart condition called “Afib” kicked in on day three. I will not go into the medical detail of this heart condition, but I can say that on November 3rd 2015 I had a heart operation that, now 4 months later has all but cleared up these afib events….in short, my heart is good keeping rhythm, time and has a manageable pace. I thank my cardiologist Dr. Lee for his steady and a keen knowledge of my heart for this gift.

So….you ask “Terry!! WTF are you doing this again?!?!” To answer your very valid question...

“Because i love cycling, I love a challenge and my pain is NOTHING compared to those affected by AIDS.”

With that said, I'm back on my NEW bike, “#Mas_Grande_Rojo” (yes it has its own Instagram name and account), training and now fundraising!

My last years fundraising produced astonishing $3500, with 90% coming from y'all in the last two weeks!!! This year I have a higher goal of $5000 and starting earlier! The little “outfit” that I had set aside for “Wednesday, red dress day”?....well by that time the MASH doctors who were tending my ass, said “no way cowboy”....so I didn't get to sport my outfit, but rest assured I will create something very special this year again!

So please, join me in this journey to end AIDS, your donation of $50 or more dollars really does a long way in partnership in helping me reach my goal and ending the AIDS epidemic.
